Spanish Notes: SER vs. ESTAR

If you follow us on Twitter, you will have noticed our Spanish Notes series covering various grammar topics.

In the first blog edition, we'll look at some key differences between the verbs SER and ESTAR.

SER
- describes general features of people, things and places: El lago Titicaca es el lago navegable más alto del mundo.
- expresses the character of a person: Martin es un jóven ambicioso.

ESTAR
- describes the location of people, things and places: La Isla del Sol está en el lago Titicaca.
- expresses feelings and emotions: Martha está contenta.
